Alternative Voices Theatre Company Director
Madeleine Levy
Beginning to act at the age of seven years Madeleine has always loved entertaining others. She began with school plays and oratory contests and then discovered musical theatre. Madeleine particularly enjoyed playing Widow Twankey in Oliver Twist and the Mother Superior in The Sound of music. Madeleine went on to do drama A level where she took an interest in using theatre to explore mental health concerns. Madeleine studied Drama and English literature at Queen Mary University of London gaining a 2:1 degree. During her Playwriting Masters degree, she became increasingly interested in mental health theatre and wrote a play called 'Choices: A play in 20 parts.' This play explored the effects of Dissociative identity disorder on those with the condition and their loved ones. Madeleine now works in partnership with Open Theatre Company Birmingham and has begun to see the value of using non-verbal physical theatre to communicate with those with complex needs.
